Students at Bowdoin are afforded the choice of 33 majors in addition to 4 minors. Situated on the shores of the Androscoggin River and Casco Bay, Bowdoin owns a coastal studies centre located on Orr’s Island as well as a scientific field station situated on Kent Island in the Bay of Fundy.

In 2014, Bowdoin and Amherst College ranked as the fourth-best liberal arts college in the US by The US News & World Report.

Bowdoin has been a popular choice with many notable figures. Alumni include the famous poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and the author of The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne.
