The private liberal arts college Bowdoin was established in 1794 and is located in the town of Brunswick in Maine. Students at Bowdoin are afforded the choice of 33 majors in addition to 4 minors. Situated on the shores of the Androscoggin River and Casco Bay, Bowdoin owns a coastal studies centre located on Orr’s Island as well as a scientific field station situated on Kent Island in the Bay of Fundy.
In 2014, Bowdoin and Amherst College ranked as the fourth-best liberal arts college in the US by The US News & World Report.
The 205-acre Brunswick campus houses two museums as well as several notable buildings. The college also runs the oldest published college newspaper in the United States, The Bowdoin Orient, which is printed weekly.

Bowdoin has been a popular choice with many notable figures. Alumni include the famous poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and the author of The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne.
